Australian passport photo
Australia wants a professional dye-sublimation print between 35 and 40 mm wide and 45 and 50 mm high, with the face 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown. Home prints and edited photos are rejected. This page does not sell one.
Start with a photo

JPEG or PNG. The file is read in this browser and is not uploaded.
Live view is mirrored on a front camera. The photo you keep is not.
Drag to move the crop. Arrow keys nudge. Plus and minus zoom.
Compliance check
PassOkay crops and checks. It does not replace the background, apply filters, or retouch the face.
These checks are estimates. They are not an acceptance decision, and PassOkay is not a government site. Head height is guessed from the chin and forehead, so nudge the crop if the guides miss the hair.
Guide and checker only. Australia requires a professional dye-sublimation print.
The Australian Passport Office also rejects background removal and other digital changes. A checker that replaces the wall would be doing the thing the rules forbid. PassOkay only shows whether your practice photo is in the right neighborhood, using a 35 × 45 mm frame, which sits inside the allowed paper range.
There is no download and no 4×6 sheet on this page. Take the official photo at a chemist or studio that prints Australian passport photos. Use the on-screen checks to see what went wrong if a photo already came back rejected, then book another sitting.

How to do it
- Read the official size range. Paper is 35–40 mm by 45–50 mm. Face height is 32–36 mm. The checker’s frame is the 35 × 45 mm end of that range.
- Compare a practice shot if you want. The warnings are about pose, light, and head size. They are not a file you can lodge.
- Get the real print from a studio. Ask for an Australian passport photo on dye-sublimation paper. Do not trim a larger picture.
Questions
Can I take an Australian passport photo at home?
No. The print has to be a professional dye-sublimation photo. Edited photos, including background removal, are rejected.
What size is an Australian passport photo?
35–40 mm wide and 45–50 mm high, with the face 32–36 mm from chin to crown.
Why can’t I download the cropped photo?
Because that file would be a home-made passport photo, and Australia does not accept it.
