ID photo
An ID photo in the United States is often the same 2 × 2 inches as a passport photo. Not every agency copied that spec. Check the DMV or the office that will scan the card before you print a stack.
Start with a photo
Drop a photo here, or use the buttons.
JPEG or PNG. The file is read in this browser and is not uploaded.
Live view is mirrored on a front camera. The photo you keep is not.
Drag to move the crop. Arrow keys nudge. Plus and minus zoom.
Compliance check
PassOkay crops and checks. It does not replace the background, apply filters, or retouch the face.
These checks are estimates. They are not an acceptance decision, and PassOkay is not a government site. Head height is guessed from the chin and forehead, so nudge the crop if the guides miss the hair.
This page starts from the passport 2×2: white or off-white background, head about 1 to 1⅜ inches, mouth closed, eyes open. Glasses are usually a problem on federal documents and a maybe on a state license. If the state page says glasses are allowed, follow the state page.
The photo never goes to PassOkay. The preview is free. The file without the watermark is $4.99, including a 4×6 sheet when you need prints.

How to do it
- Find the agency’s size. If they say 2×2, stay on this page. If they say something else, use the size chart.
- Take a plain photo. White wall, front light, no filter, face square to the camera.
- Crop and print. Unlock the JPEG or the 4×6 sheet. Turn off the printer’s auto-enhance.
Questions
What size is a standard ID photo?
In the U.S., 2 × 2 inches is the common passport-style size. State IDs can differ. Read the issuing office’s page.
Can I make an ID photo online?
Yes, in this browser. The picture is processed locally. You pay only if you want the clean file.
Will every office accept a home photo?
No. Some want you in person so they can capture the photo themselves. Call them if the instructions say “taken on site.”
Specs last checked . Default size follows the U.S. 2×2 passport photo. State ID rules are not one federal spec.
